Paris to Bombay

Mr. Lagerfeld showcased the Paris-Bombay collection recently.  Apparently, the use of "Bombay" rather than Mumbai was deliberate as Lagerfeld's vision of India is of the imperial era rather than today's Bollywood.

The collection: Nehru jackets, sari-draped dresses, leather churidars, be-jeweled kulapuri chapels, basic anarkali's and turbans.  The jewels:  Diamonds hanging from ornate tikka (headpieces), Rani-hars (princess necklaces) and nath  (nose ring).  The make-up: Classic heavily kohled eyes.

Below are the looks I thought were a better representation of the British raj.

The jeweled tweed dress & skirt are more classic Chanel.  

Sadly, the collection was a little dull. For one, the hair did not flow with the Indian asthetic.  With Indian designers like the Peacock's, Bibhu Mohapatra & Naeem Khan channeling their vision mainstream; Chanel's homepage to Bombay was much paler in comparison.
