The Saudi Princess

Meet Saudi Arabia's Princess Ameera Al-Taweel.  She breathes fresh air to the image of Saudi Arabia.  I wish I was able to find more pictures of her.  I had the experience of living in Saudi for about 10 years and as I usually tell my students, "It was the best and the worst experience of my life".  Princess Ameera is an advocate for women's rights which makes her even more admirable!

Manish Madness at Paris Fashion Week Spring 2013

LOVE LOVE LOVE Above & Below

Many were disappointed that Manish did a "Retrospective" collection for Lakme Fashion Week earlier this year.  Now we know why, he was far to busy creating these masterpieces.  Sad, though that the nation where it all started was not worthy to showcase this collection. Either way, I am overjoyed to bring these to you.  Chanel, DVF and even Marchesa have all been channeling India for their Spring'13 collections.  But when it comes to India, no one can do it better than obviously a native.  The neon colors, the see-through chiffon churidars-LOVE! I have been an ardent fan of the touch-me-if-you-can churidar since I saw Katrina Kaif wear them in a Bollywood song.  The polka-dot dresses and the animal sweaters are absolutely delightful.  Which is your favorite look?

Big Bang Wedding

It was LOVE at FIRST SIGHT for Big Bang Theory star and his former Miss India wife, Neha Kapur.  The wedding venue was New Delhi December 2011.  Photographer = Unknown, to me at least.  I loved the quirky, fun and free feeling the pictures exude.  I usually find weddings boring unless you are closely related to the couple than they tend to be fun.  These pictures almost make me wish I get to be a part of a spectacular 6 day celebration ASAP. The bride looked like the belle of the ball in all three outfits.

New York Fashion Week Spring 2013

Dine Von Furstenberg and Marchesa were my favorite collections for Spring 2013 at NYFW.  Both were obviously inspired by South Asian wear/materials/embroideries. DVF's collection had a more subtle sari drapery and the pant with long shirt (Shalwar Kameez) style.  Loved the color choices for DVF.  Bold and In-Your-Face like an Indian Wedding.  Marchesa celebrated their collection with the Indian bead work, sari pallu border on dresses, sari draped over dresses and heavily embroidered necklines.  The line seemed to be inspired by the Moguls Emperors.  This collections is fit for the Indian bride.  Even the shoes for both collections were screaming Bombay sensibilities. Which is your favorite?

Looks I Love: Lakme FW and Delhi CW 2012

Designers: Debarun/Kallol Dutta/Garav Gupta/Nishka Lulla/Patola/Yogesh Chaudhary/Sailex
Sailex and Yogesh Chaudhary received rave reviews on their collections.

Designers: Debarun/Nupur Kanoi/Yogesh Chandhary

Designer: Sabyasachi Mukherjee

So Lakme Winter/ Festive 2012 & Delhi Contour Week 2012 ended in India and I saw a lot of spanking new designers and some tried and true Veterans.   I was impressed by two designer's collections in their entirety: Fairy god-mother Anamika Khanna & Genie of the Lamp Sabyasachi Mukerjee.  Worth mentioning, the much awaiting collection by Manish Arora was a dud as it was an amalgamation of his older collections presented as "Retrospect".  Which designer's collection did you facny?

Every Photo Tells a Story

India's top notch photographer Prabuddha Dasgupta was never formally trained in formal photography. He trained himself and became the master of this craft.  His photos captured this rawness and newness yet so simple and couture.  He worked for Hermes, Loius Vuitton, Vogue USA/India, Elle India, Ritu Kumar and many others.  His muse and real life partner was the fashion favorite world-over, Laksmi Menon.  He passed away Sunday leaving a legacy hard to be matched.  Read more HERE.
