New York Fashion Week Spring 2013

Dine Von Furstenberg and Marchesa were my favorite collections for Spring 2013 at NYFW.  Both were obviously inspired by South Asian wear/materials/embroideries. DVF's collection had a more subtle sari drapery and the pant with long shirt (Shalwar Kameez) style.  Loved the color choices for DVF.  Bold and In-Your-Face like an Indian Wedding.  Marchesa celebrated their collection with the Indian bead work, sari pallu border on dresses, sari draped over dresses and heavily embroidered necklines.  The line seemed to be inspired by the Moguls Emperors.  This collections is fit for the Indian bride.  Even the shoes for both collections were screaming Bombay sensibilities. So Lakme Winter/ Festive 2012 & Delhi Contour Week 2012 ended in India and I saw a lot of spanking new designers and some tried and true Veterans.   I was impressed by two designer's collections in their entirety: Fairy god-mother Anamika Khanna & Genie of the Lamp Sabyasachi Mukerjee.  Worth mentioning, the much awaiting collection by Manish Arora was a dud as it was an amalgamation of his older collections presented as "Retrospect".  Which designer's collection did you facny? 

Every Photo Tells a Story

India's top notch photographer Prabuddha Dasgupta was never formally trained in formal photography. He trained himself and became the master of this craft.  His photos captured this rawness and newness yet so simple and couture.  He worked for Hermes, Loius Vuitton, Vogue USA/India, Elle India, Ritu Kumar and many others.  His muse and real life partner was the fashion favorite world-over, Laksmi Menon.  He passed away Sunday leaving a legacy hard to be matched.  Read more HERE.
